Custom Development

Customize your idea for production.

From artwork and product structure to materials, finishes, sampling and packaging, we help turn your idea into merchandise that is ready to produce.

Custom merchandise development worktable with sketches, material samples, hardware and packaging references

Start wherever you are. Develop as far as the project needs.

A project can begin with finished artwork, a logo, a reference image, a rough sketch or simply an idea. The level of development can then expand from basic branding to a complete merchandise collection.

Not every project needs the same level of customization. We can work from an existing product format, develop a new shape, refine materials and finishes, create custom packaging—or coordinate a complete merchandise collection.

From artwork to a real sample.

Artwork often needs to be adapted before it can become a physical product. We refine shape, proportion, color, detail and production information around the selected format, material and manufacturing process. Sampling then confirms how the product works in the real world before production.

Designed as a product. Built as a collection.

Packaging is part of the merchandise experience, not an afterthought. We can develop presentation around a single product or coordinate multiple formats, artwork and packaging into a cohesive collection.

Packaging can protect the product, support retail display and extend the visual identity of the project.

Common custom development questions.

A few practical questions about starting a custom merchandise project, preparing artwork, sampling, packaging and production coordination.

What do I need to start a custom project?

You can start with a finished artwork file, logo, character, landmark photo, sketch, reference image or even an early product idea. The amount of development needed depends on how complete the starting materials are and what product you want to create.

Do I need finished production artwork?

Not always. Existing vector artwork can make the process faster, but rough sketches, reference images or visual concepts can also be reviewed and adapted for suitable product formats and manufacturing processes.

Can the same artwork be used across different products?

Yes, but it may need to be adjusted. A design used for a metal pin may require different line detail, shape, construction or color treatment when adapted for acrylic, resin, textile, plush or other formats.

Can you help choose materials and finishes?

Yes. Material and finish recommendations can be developed around the artwork, intended use, target appearance, product format, quantity and budget. The available options vary by product and process.

Is sampling required before production?

Sampling is strongly recommended for custom products when form, color, finish, construction or packaging needs to be confirmed. The appropriate sampling process depends on the product, manufacturing method and project requirements.

Can you develop custom packaging?

Yes. Depending on the project, packaging can include backing cards, sleeves, pouches, boxes, inserts and multi-product gift-set structures. Packaging can be developed for a single item or coordinated across a merchandise collection.

Can one idea become a full merchandise collection?

Yes. A place, character, artwork, campaign or other creative concept can be adapted across several product formats with coordinated colors, motifs, materials and packaging so the range feels related rather than like isolated products.

Are all products made by one caldvane factory?

No. caldvane works as a product development and sourcing coordination partner rather than presenting every product as coming from one factory. Different product formats may be matched with different production partners based on material, process, quality, quantity and project requirements.
